This Week's Program
Daviess County High School Madrigual Singers
Last Week’s Program
- Allison Jarvis and Betsy Youngman, Owensboro High School
Under the direction of Mrs. Julie White, the City Singers (The Owensboro Public School's Elementary Chorus) gave a five-star performance for
Rotarians this week. Kicking off December with holiday cheer, the third and fourth graders from all
of the city elementary schools sang several Christmas songs to get all members in the spirit. To qualify as a member of
the City Singers, these elite musicians had to audition to become part of this select group of singers.
Traveling far and abroad, the Singers have performed in places such as Carnegie Hall and for the Governor at our state capitol. They may be young,
but these musicians will blow you away with their talent.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS: COMMUNITY SERVICE
As you know, at least I hope you do, one of our key club objectives this year is to work on at least 4 community service projects. There’s nothing
magic about that number. A number was chosen to make the point that we need to get personally involved in the community on behalf of Rotary...give our
time as well as our money.
So far, we have one project under our belts. Henry Payne chaired the Salvation Army project and got 16 Rotarians to ring bells one day. This is
an example of a project that didn’t require a lot of time or effort. Thanks to Henry, this is one project we have done for at least the past several
years.
Our next project is now upon us: Christmas Wish. I already have 16 people who have volunteered to work at least 1 hour on at least 1 day. This is the
most flexible project we could have. Rotarians can work any day, except Sunday, from now until Christmas Eve, can work any hours from 7 to 9, and
can choose from many different tasks that need to be done. Call me at 926-2737 to volunteer. All members should work at least 1 hour on at least 1
project. If you want a great, good-feeling, easy project, this is the one.
Ed Allen has already asked for volunteers to help him with the Museum of Science and History’s Dinosaur Day in May. And, we know we need to
start planning for Readifest, even thought that will probably be right after this
Rotary year ends. Malcolm Bryant suggested to me that helping the Kid’s Vote project would be another great opportunity for us next year.
Just think: With over 200 members, our club could easily provide 10-15 volunteers to 6, 8 or 10 projects. Mostly small projects; maybe a couple of
bigger projects. We are a club with varied interests. 10-15 people are a lot of volunteers for most projects. Just think if we were to become known as
the "Volunteer Club"!
Thanks and have a great week!
