Last Week’s Program....
President Marilyn Brookman recapped the past year in the life of Owensboro Rotary and related some of the accomplishments. There were many working committees, excellent programs, door prizes, and fun table decorations. Financial support was provided to many worthwhile organizations and deserving students through scholarships as well as recognition for outstanding students. The big project--indoor playground--moved ahead with the location identified as the Science and History Museum.
Recognition certificates were presented to every member who served on a committee.
The Decorations Committee took top honors, and its members were Ed Pulliam, Millie Killian, Pat Berry, Don Pinkley, and Judy Rouse. Solo awards were given to Ken Lawson for club pictures and to Pat McFarling for the website. John Kurtz was thanked for all of his work on the Big Project. Three guardian angel awards were given to Sim Davenport, Jane Noble, and Donna Risley for their support and assistance throughout the year.
Club Secretary Jeff Ebelhar and Recording Secretary Judy Rouse were thanked for their dedication and help. Cap Gardner was recognized for his 60 year membership in Owensboro Rotary, and Bob Nation was thanked for his 17 years of service as Club Treasurer.
The Foundation Board members were recognized for their fiscal responsibility, and they were Bob Burns, Bob Carper, Sim Davenport, Jeff Ebelhar, and David Edds, Sr. The Board of Directors were thanked for their commitment and hard work, and they were Sim Davenport, Bill Dexter, David Edds, Jr., Jeff Ebelhar, Darrell Higginbotham, Larry Mercer, Pat McFarling, Jane Noble, and Tom Smith.
It was acknowledged that it is both an honor and a pleasure to be an Owensboro Rotarian, and the aforementioned members have been the epitome of good Rotarians who have embraced the motto "Service Above Self." The program then concluded with a song wishing Owensboro Rotary members good luck in all Rotarian endeavors and very pleasant days ahead.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
As I conclude my year as President of Owensboro Rotary, I have many wonderful memories to look back upon, and those memories will remain with me forever. Overwhelmingly, the memories are ones of good times. The memories are like life--a myriad of colors of the good and worthwhile experiences that stand vivid and clear.
We have seen Owensboro Rotary grow and develop. We have seen it continue to grow into a dynamic and powerful organization. We have seen our Club revolve through the year with a healthy share of fellowship--good times with good friends.
That I was a part of it all, however small, has given me the greatest of pleasures, and I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to play a role in the growth, development, and fellowship of Owensboro Rotary. During the year, I have been very fortunate to have been surrounded by some of the finest people this world has produced--our board members, our foundation board members, our officers, our members, members of other clubs, our newsletter printers and publishers, our accountants--people whose dedication and drive and expertise has hopefully rubbed off on me. I have learned from all of you, and I am grateful.
During the past few months, I received an e-mail from a good friend about "Enough."
The story goes that a father and a daughter were parting at an airport and wished each other, "enough." The father explained that it was a family tradition to say, "I wish you enough," when leaving one another. I would like to share those words with you as I leave the presidency:
My very best wishes to Larry Mercer, our new President on July 1. May his term of office be an ever more wonderful experience than mine has been, if that is possible. I look forward to meeting with all of you again as one of the gang.
Have a great week!
Marilyn
