OWENSBORO'S ROTARY IMPETUS

October 26, 2002

This Week’s Program...Captain David Osborne

Last Week’s Program...
Rotary welcomed fellow Rotarian Steve Wilson, Commonwealth Attorney from Bowling Green. In addition to Rotary, Steve is very active in Warren County, serving on various local boards and committees. He has received many awards including Outstanding Young Attorney by the Kentucky Bar Association in 1992, Victim Advocacy Award in 1992, Outstanding Commonwealth’s Attorney by the Attorney General of Kentucky in 1994, and Outstanding Kentucky Prosecutor of 2000.

Through many humorous examples, Steve spoke of "self-defining moments" from childhood, that affect choices made later in life. He emphasized the importance of believing in yourself and encouraging others around us to do the same. One brief encounter with a child may make a difference in his or her life. Steve also encouraged us as Rotarians to take the opportunity to learn more about our community through the diversity of members in the club. There are many people to meet and new stories to hear that we may not have the opportunity to, outside of Rotary.

We were pleased to welcome special guests this week from Owensboro’s sister city of Oloumac, Czech Republic.

Thanks to Bill West and Cindi Sturgeon for including our Rotary meeting during these 6 delegates visit to Owensboro.

He graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with an AS is Respiratory Therapy in 1985, a BS in Health Services in 1992, and a BS in Social Studies with Teacher Certification in 1997. He has put all these degrees to work through past employment with Owensboro Mercy Health Systems and Owensboro High School. He was hired in June of this year as the Executive Director of the Owensboro Museum of Science and History.

Jeff and wife Nancy have 4 children and are members at Precious Blood. He enjoys volunteering with the Kentucky Special Olympics, public speaking, woodworking, and traveling. Jeff will be a great asset to Owensboro Rotary. Please welcome him and take the opportunity to get to know him.
