Last Week’s
Program...
Crit Luallen, former Secretary of the Cabinet for the first
seven years of Governor Paul Patton’s administration, spoke on some of the
issues facing Kentucky today. She identified three areas of strategic importance
that must be addressed by State Government to help insure the future for
Kentucky Citizens. 1. Education. More progress is needed in the education of our
citizens. Kentucky’s Per Capita Income is at 82% of the Nations. There is a
direct linkage between educational attainment and earnings. 2. Tax Policy. Per
Crit, Kentucky’s tax policy is out of date and is based on an Agrarian economy.
It needs to be updated and based on our current economic structure to insure
stable and predicable tax revenue for the state. 3. Pride. We have to be proud
and believe in ourselves. We need to instill the value of education in our
children. We need to grow leaders and keep them here.
Crit responded to various questions, from club members, concerning the role of the Kentucky State Auditor and her vision of how she would carry out that role if elected to that position.
Thanks for a great program!
