This Week’s Program...
Library Tax Increase Proposal - Frank Brancato, Chair of the Owensboro-Daviess County Library Board

Last Week’s Program...
Club President Jeff Ebelhar reported on the 2003 Rotary International Convention, which he attended with his wife Margie in Brisbane Australia on June 1 through June 4. The theme for the convention was "Sow the Seeds of Love". RI President Bhichai Rattakul, reported by Jeff to be a very humble and inspiring man, set the tone for the four-day convention in his opening address by reflecting on the steadfast dedication of Rotarians in a year marked by global conflict and instability. He described the role that Rotary plays in the world as a Humanitarian Service provider.

One of the convention highlights came with the announcement of the results of the Polio Eradication Fundraising Campaign. The goal was $80,000,000. The final tally: $88,557,000. Our club has committed $9,000 to this final effort to rid the world of the poliovirus. Of special note, RI has committed nearly $600,000,000 to this effort since our involvement in 1985. This represents the largest private sector support of a global health initiative ever. Collectively, we as Rotarians, with 33,000 clubs and 1,300,000 members worldwide, can and do make a difference in peoples lives as we "Sow the Seeds of Love".

Ebelhar invited all of the membership to attend the Centennial RI Convention to be held in Chicago in 2005.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
It was great to see several Owensboro Rotary Club family members participating in the Rotary Readifest. I noted those helping with our project were Kim Johnson-Spaw (wife of Randy Spaw), Peggy Gardner (wife of Steve Gardner) and Mallory Correa-Osborne (daughter of Tish Correa-Osborne). This is right in keeping with the Family of Rotary as suggested by our International President Jonathon Majiyagbe. Thanks for "Lending a Hand"!

Remember, August is membership month. We need your help to achieve our goal of 24 new members this year. Please invite your friends, family and business acquaintances to consider being part of the greatest service club in the world!

Have a great week,

Jeff
