Week’s Program...
Kathy Christie, Executive Director for Community
Conversations, Inc. (CCI), described the goals, objectives and activities of
this three year old organization. CCI is a non-profit, non-partisan organization
that works to create opportunities for more citizen involvement. CCI’s mission
is to facilitate an inclusive and deliberative process for citizens to explore
and address community issues. They do this by assisting others to organize and
conduct issue-based forums. Forums conducted thus far include: At Death’s Door:
Dying with dignity; Gambling: What should we do?; Governing America: Our choices
& challenges, also illegal drugs; Our Economic Future: What must our
community do?; and Racial & Ethnic Tensions. The organization has provided
training to forum facilitators and has assisted community groups in conducting
forums. CCI is now offering "Conversation Cafés" on an on-going basis just
before most Friday-After-Five events in the Founders Room at the River Park
Center. A Conversation Café’ is a roundtable discussion about a general topic
led by a facilitator. Kathy invited us to participate in upcoming Forums and
Café’s.
Thanks for an interesting program!

Thought for the Week: "Be not ashamed of thy virtues; honor's a good brooch to wear in a man's hat at all times." - Ben Jonson (1572 - 1637)
YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
RI President Jonathon B.
Majiyagbe invites us to "Lend A Hand", not only to increase membership but also
to retain members. He suggests one way we can do this is by creating a Family of
Rotary committee, in charge of making the Rotary experience more "family
friendly". He asked us to welcome and include non-Rotarian members – spouses,
adult children, widows and widowers of former Rotarians – as active participants
in club activities and fellowship. He believes and I agree, the more hands we
have, the more effective the services we render.
Have a great week,
Jeff
