OWENSBORO'S ROTARY IMPETUS

July 5, 2003

This Week’s Program... Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club, Executive Director Steve Winkler

Last Week’s Program...
Lt. General Maxwell C. Bailey retired from the Air Force in March 2002. He has been hired by the Department of Criminal Justice Training as Special Projects Coordinator that places him in the forefront of Homeland Security issues. Some of his numerous assignments & commands were in Iraq and included Operations Desert Storm & Desert Shield.

General Bailey provided us with a slide show briefing on the latest war in Iraq. He described the Air Supremacy of the U.S. Air Force and how this impacted how the war was conducted. In addition, he brought together a total picture of the combined efforts of the Joint Forces and how the strengths of each lead to the success of the war effort. His insights on the war were met with a question & answer session that could have lasted all day if time had permitted.

Thanks for a great program!

Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence, which was approved & signed by members of the Continental Congress of the United States of America.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
It is with great humility and honor that I accept the duties and responsibilities of serving as your Rotary Club President for 2003-2004. In this position I hope to share with you the pride that comes from a membership in the Owensboro Rotary Club.

Our Club has a proud history that traces back to 1915. We will be celebrating our 90th year as a Rotary Club in 2005, the Centennial year of Rotary International.

It is my hope over the coming year to trace our history, to review our many club charitable programs and civic endeavors as well as to profile our club fellowship, business and membership activities.

We have such a large club I do not believe we have the opportunity to meet and know all of the other members. To this end we hope to include a member profile in each weekly edition of the Impetus.

Our International President Jonathon B. Majiyagbe has adopted as this years motto "Lend a Hand". What a great and simple statement that sums up the purpose of Rotary.

I welcome your comments, suggestions and most certainly your help.

Have a great week,

Jeff
