OWENSBORO'S ROTARY IMPETUS

June 21, 2003

This Week’s Program...  No Meeting

Last Week’s Program...
Judge Mac Griffin, of Circuit Court Division 1, addressed Rotary this week in regards to current issues facing the court system. Existing problems include an increase in case loads, increase in drug-related cases, the state financial crisis, and increased security requirements at the judicial center. Historically, major crimes remain at a steady level, while lesser crimes increase, with total arrests increasing annually. So far this year, there have been 550 – 600 felony indictments and 1500 civil claims. Two-thirds of the criminal docket is drug-related, most often in the manufacturing of methamphetamines.

While there are many concerns facing the local court system, Judge Griffin emphasizes his opinion that the Owensboro / Daviess County area is an enjoyable place to live, with a very high quality of life. An outstanding aspect of the area is the availability of over 200 community service agencies.

Rotary appreciates the time and information shared by Judge Griffin.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
I would like to share an e-mail I recently received…

Most of us have now learned to live with voice mail as a necessary part of our lives. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if God decided to install voice mail? Imagine praying and hearing the following:

Thank you for calling heaven. For English – press 1, for Spanish – press 2, for all other languages – press 3. Please select one of the following options. For request – press 1, for thanksgiving – press 2, for complaints – press 3, for all others – press 4.

I am sorry, all our Angels and Saints are busy helping other sinners right now. However, your prayer is important to us and we will answer it in the order it was received. Please stay on the line. If you would like to speak to God – press 1, Jesus – press 2, Holy Spirit – press 3. To find a loved one that has been assigned to heaven – press 5, then enter their social security number followed by the pound sign. If you receive a negative response, please hang up and dial area code 666. For reservations to heaven, please enter JOHN followed by the numbers 316. For answers to nagging questions about dinosaurs, life in general, and other planets, please wait until you arrive in heaven for the specifics.

Our computers show that you have already been prayed for today, please hang up and call again tomorrow. The office is now closed for the weekend to observe a religious holiday. If you are calling after hours and need emergency assistance, please contact your local pastor. Thank you and have a heavenly day.

Have a great week,

Larry
