OWENSBORO'S ROTARY IMPETUS

November 1, 2003

This Week’s Program... Zev Buffman, Executive Director River Park Center - Arts in Owensboro

Last Week’s Program...
Joe Gamble, CEO of the Wendell Foster’s Campus for Developmental Disabilities discussed current events at the Campus. He reported that some tough financial decisions had been made, but that these were necessary to put the organization back on an even keel. He reported that next month they would be back in the black. He reported that 63 individuals lived on campus in ICF (Intensive Care Facilities) and that 15 individuals lived on campus in SCL (independent living facilities). Nine (9) school systems send children to the Campus via school bus each day. He further reported that an additional 500 patients receive some form of speech, physical or occupational therapy on an outpatient basis each month. The Campus has an annual budget of $7,500,000.00 and employs 230 people.

Thanks for an informative program.

Thought for the Week:  It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities. - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, 1999

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
Each week when I look out over the assembly of the Owensboro Rotary Club I am filled with confidence and encouragement. Our Club members have a very positive and supportive attitude. The fellowship that arises from this creates great energy and enthusiasm in me and in others present for the meeting. There is no question, in my mind, why the Owensboro Rotary Club has been around for 88 years. This year’s International motto of "Lend a Hand" is fitting in so many ways. Thank you for your continued support!

Why Join Rotary? Reason # 11: Entertainment: Every Rotary Club and district has parties and activities that provide diversion in one’s business life. Rotary holds conferences, conventions, assemblies, and institutes that provide entertainment in addition to Rotary information, education and service.

Have a great week,

Jeff
