Last Week’s
Program...
Gary Noffsinger, Executive Director of the Owensboro
Metropolitan Planning Commission, reported that the comprehensive plan for
Daviess County is updated every five (5) years and was last updated in 2001. The
OMPC does large area planning. Developers do small area planning. He defined
developers to include Sub dividers, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Inc., and
other economic developers. Currently, the Service sector is providing most of
the development in Daviess County. The service section includes banks as well as
City and County parks.
A review of the zoning ordinance is currently underway by a committee appointed by the OMPC. Their objective is to search for ways to streamline the planning and zoning process subject to the approval of the elected officials.
Gary reported on the improvements made in electronic data processing equipment being used by the building and electrical inspection units as well as the GIS system being used for mapping purposes and how these systems were speeding up the approval, notification and reporting processes for builders.
Gary also reported the Commission had developed an hour-long video describing the building inspection process all the way from the footer to the completed building. The video is designed to educate the general public on the inspection process and is to be broadcast on the public access channel.
Thanks for an interesting program.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
We are about to enter
a very special time of the year. I encourage you to take a few minutes to give
thanks to God for the many blessings you have received. Perhaps it would be good
to make a list. If you happen to list a particular person, let that person know
that you give thanks they are part of your life.
Why Join Rotary? Reason # 14: Vocational Skills: Every Rotarian is expected to take part in the growth and development of his or her own profession or vocation, to serve on committees, and to teach youth about one’s job or vocation. Rotary helps to make one a better doctor, lawyer, teacher, etc.
Have a great week,
Jeff
