Last Week’s Program
Heather Benson development director
for Make a Wish Foundation of Kentucky, based in Louisville, was our guest
speaker. The Make a Wish Foundation is a worldwide organization that grants the
wish of children who suffer from a terminal illness. Kentucky was the last state
in the United States to open an office. During the 3 years that it has been open
the Kentucky Make a Wish Foundation has granted 200 wishes, an average of 65
wishes a year. The average cost of a wish is $5,000. Heather described some of
the wishes that have been granted and stated that the 4 most popular wishes, in
order, are: 1) I wish to go to ____________, 2) I wish to have ____________, 3)
I wish to meet ____________, and 4) I wish to be _____________. She went on to
describe the various methods used to raise funds to grant the wish of the child.
Thanks for an interesting program.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
Do you have a wish? Today’s guest speaker
reminded me that I have a BIG wish (or goal) for the Owensboro Rotary Club. That
wish is for us to complete our fundraising efforts for the Owensboro Rotary
Indoor Playground. To date we have raised $150,000 of our $250,000 goal. I know
we can complete this fundraising process by the end of June 2004.
Thanks for "Lending a Hand" and being part of Rotary.
Have a great week,
Jeff
