OWENSBORO'S ROTARY IMPETUS

July 3, 2004

This Week’s Program...
President’s Report - Pat McFarling - Rotary International Convention in Osaka, Japan.

Last Week’s Program
Dean Stanley, Board Chair and Mary Bryant Hood, Executive Director of the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art reported on The Phoenix Rises, the Museum’s capital campaign. The mythological phoenix is a majestic bird that lives for centuries at a time. Consumed by fire, the phoenix rises from its ashes to live again and is a universal symbol of immortality. The Museum, like the phoenix, plans to rise from its ashes into a youthful vital organization that will serve generations yet unborn.

The campaign has a monetary goal of $1,980,000. The funds will be used to cover the operating losses experienced since the Museum was forced to close after the fire in June 2003 plus the expected insurance shortfalls in covering the needed repairs to the many works of art and the Museum buildings damaged in the fire. Excess funds will be placed in an endowment. To date the campaign has raised $500,000.

Dean stated, "The Museum impacts and enhances the quality of life for all of us. It is a community asset which has nurtured us for 25 years. It is now our chance to nurture the Museum."

Thanks for an informative program. Good luck with the campaign.
