Last Week’s Program
We were blessed with two
programs today. The first was an exciting report on the Owensboro Rotary Indoor
Playground presented by Terri Hendi of Site Masters and Bruce Barker of
Interactive Play Co, LLC. They provided a power point presentation showing the
final design renderings. Terri described the educational link to the playground
and explained that children learn by playing. We began to get a better sense of
how the playground would be a load of fun and yet tie into the mission of the
Owensboro Area Museum of Science & History. The playground is designed to
provide a walk through our area history with the river as the central theme. Our
walk through history proceeds with a house from an Indian village, an early
settler’s fort, a cave, a tree house, a river paddleboat, a train depot &
train, and a glass enclosed flowing river. Each of the elements incorporates
playground equipment. For example, the tree house incorporates a circular slide
inside the tree. Oh, to be a kid again! The Owensboro Rotary Indoor
Playground will clearly be a project we will be proud of for many years to come.
Next, fellow Rotarian Jim White, Music Director and Conductor announced that Music at Maple Mount was celebrating its 30th year. Jim recounted some of the more humorous events that he has experienced over the years. Once after a Chamber Music Concert a man wearing bib overalls and chewing tobacco came up and complimented Jim by saying “I sure enjoyed that Chamber Pot Music”.
Jim also told of the musical success experienced by many of the Music at Maple Mount alumni. He was quick to recognize and thank the Owensboro Community for its financial support and invited us all to attend the 10 free public concerts this June. It was exciting to reflect on the positive impact that Music at Maple Mount has had on this community. Jim, thanks for an enjoyable presentation. Congratulations and best wishes for your continued success.
Thanks for two great programs.
