OWENSBORO'S ROTARY IMPETUS

Last Week’s Program...
Election of Directors: The nominees for the Owensboro Rotary Club Board of Directors class of 2004 – 2006 Tim Bradshaw, Patty Drury, Noel Maddox, Becky O’Bryan, Susan Tierney, and Todd Rust each took 3 minutes to propose their candidacy by speaking against his or her ability and inform the club as to why their respective designated opponent was so much better qualified and should be elected. Kirk Kirkpatrick was in his usual humorous form as he filled in for Susan Tierney who was unable to break away from work for the "Face-Off". The candidates gave us additional insight into their opponent thus providing us with the background to make our vote.

Ballots were cast immediately following the candidate "Face Off". Three of these outstanding candidates will be elected to serve a 2 year term beginning July 1, 2004. Winners will be announced at this week’s meeting. However, we are all winners for having such an outstanding group to choose from.

Thanks for agreeing to run for office and for providing us a light-hearted way to better get to know you, the candidates.

Thought for the Week: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." ~ Plato (c. 427-347 B.C. , Philospher & Educator

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
Our club is filled with experience, wisdom and good ideas. With the varied backgrounds of our members the challenge comes in harnessing this energy. Today, Greg Longtine came up with a good suggestion. He challenged we members who have become comfortable sitting with the same group week in and week out to sit at a different table in the coming weeks and take advantage of the opportunity to get to know other members a little better. Great idea! As I understand it, this is one of Rotary’s founding ideas, the opportunity for members to rotate and get to know each other and their respective occupations. I encourage you to take up Greg’s challenge. Thanks for Lending a Hand and being part of Rotary.

Have a great week,

Jeff

Everyone who tells a joke-of-the-week will get a chance to win up to $1,000,000.00. See Jeff Ebelhar to have your name added to the list of joke tellers.
