Last Week’s Program...
Assistant
District Governor Larry Devine, standing in for District Governor Bob Boudreau,
reviewed the following 2004/05 priorities for District 6710:
• Sustain
and increase membership. The district goal is a net increase of 3%.
•
Implement successful service projects.
• Promote RI’s initiatives,
including the Family of Rotary, health concerns, water management and literacy.
• Support the Rotary Foundation through promotion of the Annual Programs
Fund and completion of pledges to PolioPlus
• Develop leaders beyond the
club level.
• Celebrate Rotary with Centennial Projects and by attending
the District Conference in Owensboro, April 14-17, 2005, and the Rotary
International Convention in Chicago, June 18-22, 2005.
Larry announced that a district membership meeting will be held October 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Central City Country Club. Club presidents, president-elects, and membership chairs are encouraged to attend. A Rotary Foundation Seminar will be held November 4, also at the Central City Country Club.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
A CENTENNIAL MILESTONE
One of the most widely printed and
quoted statements of business ethics in the world is the Rotary "4-Way Test". It
was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert Taylor (who later served as RI
president) when he was asked to take charge of the Chicago-based Club Aluminum
Company. The company was facing bankruptcy. While looking for a way to save the
company, Taylor drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in
their business and professional lives. The 4-Way Test became the guide for
sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers, and
the survival of the company was credited to this simple philosophy. The 4-Way
Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than 100
languages and published in thousands of ways.
Of the things we think,
say or do…
• Is it the TRUTH?
• Is it FAIR to all
concerned?
• Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
• Will
it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
For over five decades Rotarians have been reciting the 4-Way Test and sharing it with others. Our club opens every meeting with the Test. It’s on the banner that serves a backdrop for our speaker and we give a copy to every new member. Throughout the years and across the globe, the 4-Way Test has been displayed and communicated in countless ways. For the Test to matter, however, it must be taken to heart and expressed in life through actions and relationships. The final test is in the doing.
Have a great week!
Pat

INDOOR PLAYGROUND
UPDATE
At last week’s meeting John Kurtz reported on the status of our
indoor playground project. To date, $165,000 has been pledged toward our
fundraising goal of $250,000. The second floor area of the Owensboro Area Museum
where the playground will be located is being cleared (yes, a home has been
found for the python!) and demolition is scheduled to begin this month.
