OWENSBORO'S ROTARY IMPETUS

August 13, 2005

This Week’s Program… Mathew Gunterman - Progress on Green

Last Week’s Program...
It’s football season and what better way to kick off the season than by having head football coaches John Edge of Owensboro Catholic High School; David Barnes of Daviess County High School; Jeff Carlberg of Apollo High School; and Joe Prince of Owensboro High School, speak to the club. Football is the ultimate team sport. It teaches discipline, dedication, and teamwork. Football players work hard all year, getting only two weeks off during the summer. Most are at practice everyday, working out and scrimmaging even on the hottest of summer days. For many of these young men, the highlight of their week is to look up into the stands on a Friday night and see a couple thousand cheering fans. So as the coaches said, let’s all go enjoy a Friday night football game and cheer loudly for the young men representing not only their schools but their community.

Thanks for a great program!

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
HELP WANTED! Your Club needs your help. The continued vitality of our club depends upon our membership growth and development efforts. Each year we lose ten to fifteen members for various reasons. In my brief time as president we have already had three resignations! Our support for Rotary Readifest, our scholarships and other programs are directly related to the size of our membership and the dues we receive.

Every new Rotarian brings a range of personal and professional resources and knowledge that can strengthen our club and its ability to serve our community. Equally important is the retention of our existing members. We are always looking for ways to involve members in our various programs and projects. If you have a suggestion, let me know. Also, if you know someone who has not been to Rotary lately, let them know they’re missed.

Don’t you know someone who would be a good member for our club? I bet you do. Think about it and propose someone.

Have a great week!

Bill
