Last Week’s Program...
Play Ball!!!! Well, maybe the noon Rotary Club couldn’t play ball, but we did get to hear from a major league ball player when Owensboro’s own Brad Wilkerson was the guest speaker at Wednesday’s meeting. For all of you who may not know, Brad plays outfield and on occasion first base for the Washington Nationals, formerly the Montreal Expos. Brad’s athletic ability was known at an early age and by the time he attended Apollo High School, he was excelling in baseball and soccer. Brad capped his senior year in high school with the award of Mr. Baseball. Brad’s love of baseball continued at the University of Florida where he became the first player in college history to hit 20 home runs, steal 20 bases and win 10 games as a pitcher in the same year. Brad was named to the 2000 Olympic Baseball Team, earning a gold medal in their victory over Cuba. Brad made his major league debut in 2001. In 2002, he was named Rookie of the Year by The Sporting News, and is one of only a few major league players to hit in a cycle twice. For those of you who may not be baseball savvy, to hit in a cycle means to get a single, double, triple and home run in one game. Quite an accomplishment! Brad no longer lives in Owensboro but he continues to offer his support to the local youth. Each year he hosts the Brad Wilkerson Golf Tournament with the proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Club and Family Y.
Thanks Brad and keep the hits coming.

Thought for the Week: "We can let circumstances rule us, or we can take charge and rule our lives from within." - Earl Nightingale
YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
Are you from Kentucky? You know you’re from Kentucky if:
1. You’ve ever had to switch from heat to air conditioning in the same day.
2. You use "fix" as a verb, for example, "I am fixing to go to the store".
3. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.
4. You carry jumper cables in your car...for your OWN car.
5. You only own four spices: salt, pepper, hot sauce and catsup.
6. You think the first day of deer season is a national holiday.
7. You know all four seasons: almost summer, summer, still summer and Christmas.
8. You describe the first cool snap (below 70 degrees) as good bean soup weather.
9. Fried catfish is the other white meat.
Have a great week!
Bill
