Last Week’s Program...
The Owensboro Rotary Club was honored to have District Governor, Hugh McShane, as its guest speaker. Hugh began his remarks by reminding the Club that the theme for Rotary’s first year of its second millennium is the same as when it was started in 1905, "Service Above Self". Hugh has been a member of Rotary for 17 years and is a founding member of the Prospect/Goshen Rotary Club, a past president of the East Louisville Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow. Hugh shared stories with the Club regarding his firsthand knowledge of how clubs working together along with matching grants from the Rotary Foundation can accomplish great things. Hugh closed by reminding everyone that this year’s District Conference would be held April 28 and 29 at The Galt House in Louisville. The theme for this year’s conference will be the Unbridled Spirit of Rotary in Kentucky.
Thank you Hugh.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
Rotary Clubs worldwide have mobilized to assist the victims of the devastation caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita along the gulf coast region of the United States. Rotary Clubs in Louisianna, Mississippi and ten other states have set up special relief funds to receive contributions from Rotary members. Those clubs will work with established emergency relief agencies to address the most pressing needs of communities in the affected areas. Rotary International is coordinating the efforts of clubs around the world so that those clubs can learn what is needed and contribute efficiently and effectively. To aid in efforts in Mississippi, donations may be sent to Rotary Katrina Fund, Bill Simmons, District Treasurer, 627 Sherwood Road, Starkville, Mississippi 39759. To assist in the efforts in Louisiana, checks may be mailed to Janice Bradshaw, P.O. Box 44365, Lafayette, Louisiana 70504. In addition to collecting money, clubs throughout the region are also collecting food, supplies and providing shelter to refugees. One of Rotary’s strengths is that we have clubs in most of the communities affected by the disaster that can provide aid and assistance at the grassroots level.
