Last Week’s Program...
Judge Julia Kurtz Tackett of the Kentucky Court of Appeals was introduced to the Club by her brother and fellow Rotarian, Bill Kurtz. Judge Tackett was the first woman to serve as a prosecutor in Kentucky and was elected to the Court of Appeals in 1999. There are seven appellate districts in Kentucky with two judges from each district. Judge Tackett presides in the 5th Appellate District in Fayette County. The Judge discussed how the Court of Appeals operates and the types of cases they hear on a monthly basis. She regaled the Club with several amusing stories of cases she has heard over the years. Together with club guest, Court of Appeals Judge Jeff Taylor, they answered questions from club members regarding the court system. Judge Tackett closed her remarks by letting everyone know that even though she was a judge she was still a Kurtz and could conduct an auction if the need arose.

Thank you Judge Tackett.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS: "Membership has its privileges"
Many of you may not know that Rotarians are eligible for discounts on a wide range of products and services because of the partnerships Rotary International has formed with various companies. You can find a complete list on the Rotary website, www.rotary.org. Click on "Shop Online and Support the Rotary Foundation."

For example, RI has teamed up with Dell Computer Systems to extend special offers to Rotarians that are not available to the general public. Some of the benefits include discounts on computer equipment, discount in shipping, special hardware technical support and a variety of payment methods. There is more information about this offer at the Dell Employee and Affiliates Purchase Program website or by calling 1-800-695-8133 and reference the Rotary Member ID PS18326048.

Have a great week.
