OWENSBORO'S ROTARY IMPETUS

January 21, 2006

This Week’s Program… Daviess County Judge Executive Reid Haire

Last Week’s Program...
Carolyn Witt Jones, Executive Director of Partnership for Kentucky Schools spoke to the Club regarding their efforts to help improve Kentucky schools. The Partnership for Kentucky Schools is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization established in 1991 by leaders of national corporations with strong ties to Kentucky: United Parcel Service, Ashland, Inc. and Humana, Inc. The organization has implemented programs and strategies to aid in the improvement of Kentucky’s schools. Their goal is to strengthen the community by building partnerships to improve schools, accelerate student achievement and address the need for a more highly skilled workforce. She stressed the importance of all members of the community, school, civic and faith leaders, parents, students, and employers working together to achieve educational excellence.

Thank you Carolyn for sharing your views on how a community can work together to improve schools and provide better educational opportunities for our children.

Thought for the Week: Happiness keeps you sweet. Trials keep you strong. Sorrows keep you human. Failures keep you humble. Success keeps you glowing. But only God keeps you going!

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS: IMPORTANT REMINDER!
On Wednesday, January 25, 2006, we will return to the Owensboro Country Club for our meetings. This will be our first opportunity to see the newly renovated clubhouse.

I know all of you join me in thanking Chief John Kazlauskas and the entire Owensboro Police Department for their hospitality in hosting our meetings for the past three weeks. Everything went smoothly, thanks to John and his staff. I know that several members enjoyed touring the new police department building (on a voluntary basis!). I also want to thank Board Member Patty Ray for setting up the fellowship table and arranging for catering for these meetings.

Did you hear about the OPD patrolman who pulled over a Rotarian on 9th Street? The patrolman asked "Got any ID?" The Rotarian replied, "Bout whut?".

Have a great week.

Bill
