OWENSBORO'S ROTARY IMPETUS

July 22, 2006

This Week’s Program… Judge Thomas O. Castlen, Circuit Court Judge Division II - Daviess Circuit Court and Status of Drug Court

Last Week’s Program...

Coach Brent Holsclaw, KWC Football, and Coach John Edge, Owensboro Catholic Football – New Stadium & Season Preview.

We were all encouraged to come out this season and support local high school and college football…regardless of our team allegiance. Coach John Edge reported that the Catholic Aces were into two-a-day practices with a team in rebuilding. The quarterback this year is a sophomore and many other offensive stars from last year’s team have graduated. The defense is "solid, with many returning players" coach edge said.

Coach Holsclaw is excited about the "great support the team receives from this community" and is pleased with many new capital projects on campus including the stadium and many dormitory renovations. Since the NCAA won’t let the Panthers practice until August 6th, Coach Holsclaw doesn’t exactly know what he has to work with this year. What he does know is that his 4th season at KWC will likely see 10 players returning from offense last year and 8 returning from defense. The team competes in the Great Lakes Football Conference and will play division 1 Western Illinois as well as the 6 teams in the conference. Coach Holsclaw said his team has to "believe in each other" to have a successful season. Holsclaw’s excitement was obvious when he described his team as "loaded" and expected them to finish better than last year’s 3-7 panthers.

The panthers open at home on August 26th with Kentucky State and The Aces look forward to exciting "Football Events" at the new field.
