Last Week’s Program...
Ronny Pryor lobbyist for the Chamber of Commerce spoke to the club about the ins and outs of lobbying. A lobbyist can be a good investment for many companies and groups. With their extensive connections with lawmakers, they can fight for and against matters which directly effect their clients. In representing our Chamber, Mr. Pryor is our voice in Frankfort letting the legislators know that Owensboro, the third largest city in Kentucky, needs their help and support.

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
June is Fellowship Month on the Rotary calendar. We kicked the month off right with our annual Gala and Awards Night on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at the Owensboro Country Club. The evening was filled with fine food, fellowship and fun. Background music was provided by a string quartet made up of four talented area high school students. Martel Wightman was recognized for his 50 years of service as a member of our club. In addition to his service award, the club presented Martel a framed picture of him in his "Ahab the Arab" get-up from his 33 years of participation in Owensboro’s famous PU Band. We all enjoyed being reminded of his antics. The club bestowed its highest honor, the E.W. Smith Award, to Jarred Barron in recognition of his many contributions to his profession, community and our club. Finally, the club recognized three new Paul Harris Fellows: Roy Stone, Sister Suzanne Sims, and yours truly. Also, a big thank you to Marijane Salmon for arranging the festivities this year.
