Last Week’s Program...
President-elect John Kurtz performed a valuable service for the Club by introducing the candidates for new board members. Thanks to the use of a valuable computer search engine called Google, and a little biographical information supplied by the candidates themselves, John was able to present the Club with quite a few facts on each candidate. The highly qualified candidates were: Jeremy Bradford,
Brenda Clayton, Kirk Kirkpatrick, Greg Longtine, Gavin Roberts and
Ed Wathen. After all votes were tallied, the new board members, whose two year terms begin July 1, 2006, are: Jeremy Bradford, Kirk Kirkpatrick, and Ed Wathen.
Congratulations Jeremy, Kirk and Ed, and Welcome Aboard!

YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKS:
As a part of my plan to hear from some of our past presidents, I urged my good friend,
Glenn Taylor, to write a letter for the Impetus. I should have known better....
YOUR PAST PRESIDENT SPEAKS
Perhaps my favorite part of serving as president was writing a president’s message each week. It was a warm feeling of satisfaction that I got from it, knowing that by just the investment of a brief bit of my time and some careful thought about what would be meaningful to the members there could be established a rapport and an even stronger bond of Rotary friendship.
I never felt pressure to prepare a president’s message for the Impetus. While serving as president, I considered it a privilege, enhanced by the simple knowledge that I was doing what was expected of me. I looked forward to and took pride in having each one completed and hand-delivered (no fax or e-mail to Inky Fingers Hardin) in time for publication. But now there is pressure, despite it being called a gentle reminder, imposed by a wheedling president looking for someone to take some work off his hands. Not only does he not have to hand-deliver it, but as an attorney he doesn’t even have to type it into the computer. He just dictates, a verb that could easily become a noun and a title to which he is becoming more and more suited.
I don’t recall being asked to share his trip to the International Convention, to stay in the fancy hotels, to eat in the 5-star restaurants, to rub elbows with the glitterati of Rotary. Noooo! But ask me to do some job he wants to slough off? Without a moments hesitation. He asked me if I would do it then thanked me for agreeing before I’d had a chance to respond.
He asked me to write about anything I wanted then gave me a list of topics from which to choose. I’m giddy with the freedom. So I’ll choose one; recollection. I recall with glee the freedom the club felt in goading the president, the quick-witted banter that could take place between the podium and the room. So, rather than bore you with all that happened or didn’t, during my tenure, I’ll take this wonderful opportunity to sling an arrow of friendship toward President Bill.
Have a Great Week!
